World Lupus Day walk on Cannock Chase looks to help raise awareness

The Hibbs Lupus team

A HEDNESFORD charitable trust is looking for the support of the local community as they look to continue to raise awareness of Lupus.

The Hibbs Lupus Trust was established in 2011 by Founder and Chairman, John Hibbs, following the diagnosis of his sister, Viki, with the condition that affects many parts of the body and causes symptoms ranging from mild to life-threatening.

A week tomorrow, Sunday 10 May, will see the next annual Lupus Walk being held on Cannock Chase as part of 'World Lupus Day'.

Starting at Marquis Drive, registration opens from 10am with there being two routes on offer: either a comfortable two mile option or a more challenging five miles with the walks designed to be open to all.

Taking in some of Cannock Chase's best views in this area of outstanding natural beauty, the day's aim is to raise awareness of the condition that affects around 15,000 people in England and Wales.

John explained further about the day: "It's a day for all of the family - RG promotions are joining us again this year to compere the event; we have face painting and even a bouncy castle.

"All we really need now is the support of the public to register and get walking for a good cause. Last year's event was a great day and we are keen to repeat its success.

"The charity is run entirely by volunteers and all funds raised go directly to supporting patients of lupus in Staffordshire."

Registration is £5.00 for adults and children under 14 are free. However, all children need to be accompanied by an adult. Dogs are also very welcome.
